Helping Businesses Succeed

UTA continues to drive the North Texas economy by helping small and mid-size manufacturing firms improve production and efficiency. Mark Sessumes, executive director of TMAC, and his team at UTA associated with the Texas affiliate of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership program of the National Institute of Standards and Technology were recently granted a $6.6 million federal award to help accelerate the growth and competitiveness of these firms. Koh

Seong Jin Koh, a Department of Materials Science and Engineering professor, received a patent on technology he developed that reduces the power dissipation on transistors. The impact of this research could change the way computers, smartphones, tablets, and most electronics prevent overheating from excessive use and could yield huge energy savings to companies like Google, Yahoo! or Amazon that need large amounts of transistor operations in their data centers. Hamilton

Standout center for UTA basketball in 2017-18, Johnny Hamilton inked his first professional contract with the NBA's Detroit Pistons on Tuesday. Hamilton scored 11.1 points per game for UTA last season and picked up 8.1 rebounds per game and a team-high 2.3 blocks. READ MORE

Don't forget to register for the August meeting of the Fort Worth alumni chapter sponsored in part by UTA Fort Worth's EMBA program. The meeting takes place at Joe T. Garcia's from 12 to 1 PM on August 7 and will feature remarks from Brian Coltharp ('92) and plenty of Maverick networking. REGISTER

Alfred Vidaurri Jr. ('72), vice president at Freese and Nichols, Inc., was elected treasurer of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) at the group’s 99th Annual Business Meeting. Vidaurri is a graduate of UTA's Master of Architecture program. READ MORE

UTA Night at the Rangers | The ever-popular UTA Night at the Rangers is back when the Texas Rangers take on the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Park. The first 1,750 UTA fans to purchase their game ticket through the Rangers website will receive a special UTA-themed Rangers baseball hat. GAME TICKETS or PICNIC TICKETS

October 6 | Saturday

UTA Day at the Zoo | Join the herd of Mavericks exploring the wonders of the animal kingdom at the first ever UTA Day at the Fort Worth Zoo. Your ticket includes entry into the Zoo, parking, and a catered picnic. Bring the family and enjoy a day of fun and friends at one of the country's best zoos. Children 2 and younger are free!
