State budget will affect higher education funding

  85th Texas Legislature

Texas Monthly’s BurkaBlog on Friday, April 7, looked at the Texas Senate’s budget plans for higher education. The plan, according to author R.G. Ratcliffe, includes a $15 million cut to UTA’s state funding.

The Texas Senate passed a $106.3 billion budget in late March, and then the Texas House adopted a $106.8 billion budget on Friday, April 7. The budget bill now heads to Conference Committee where the House and the Senate will work out their differences in the budget prior to the end of the 85th Legislative Session on Monday, May 29.

An Austin American-Statesman article explains the higher education differences between the budgets.
