UTA Engineering Ambassadors

Student Ambassadors educate middle school, high school, and community college students on engineering fields, engineering programs at UTA, and the importance of math and science.  This group of engineering majors shares the students’ perspective of the University and the College.

What do Engineering Student Ambassadors Do?

  • Provide information to prospective students about the College of Engineering via social media, email, phone calls, letters, postcards, etc.
  • Meet one-on-one with future students and parents
  • Represent the College of Engineering at college and career fairs, transfer fairs, school visits, New Maverick orientation, Maverick Experience, and more
  • Participate in STEM-focused events at area schools
  • Lead tours of the College
  • Participate on student panels
  • Represent the College at community, industry and university and alumni functions

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering, specially software engineering, excited me because programming, for me, is like playing videos games, and I enjoy that.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? I like UTA because it's a very diverse campus and you get to know different personalities and cultures, which I think is a plus because in the future we will be working with people from different background.

What is your ideal job after graduation? After graduation I would like to work for a company to help businesses improve their software and add new feature to them or work for a video game company like Konami.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? As a software engineer I will create videos games like “Metal Gear” that both entertain and help you develop your logic

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering is not only a technical and creative process, it is also a way of life. Knowing that my actions and manifestation of solutions to problems may help a life is a fulfilling way to live.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? The amount of resources on this campus is truly insurmountable. Everyone, both students and professors, are very supportive in helping each other reach their goals.

What is your ideal job after graduation? I'm not entirely too sure right now, however, I would at some point like to establish a tech company that manufactures quantum computers.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? There are numerous amounts of breakthroughs I would like to see occur in our time, however, to choose one. I would say the ability to digitize human memory and sensory perception would be a delight to create.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering is very exciting for me because it helps me use science and my innovative thinking to solve problems and work collaboratively with other people to create new designs for the benefit of future generations.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? The best part about the College of Engineering at UTA is the limitless opportunities for students, regardless of the kind of engineering their doing. We’re not only taught in class through books but are also given the chance to apply our knowledge in a real setting/environment. As an architectural engineer, I’ve had studios in which I actually build small structural designs and get to use programs like AutoCAD and Revit that we were taught in our courses.

What is your ideal job after graduation? Hopefully to work with an engineering firm or architecture firm that requires a group of engineers and architects to collaborate together and work on projects. I love working with other people on group projects because I get to learn so much from them.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I want to be able to promote sustainability through my structural designs. I believe that currently, we’re in a place where we really need to work on designing eco-friendly buildings for future generations. So I can definitely see myself working on ideas that would include using eco-friendly material components in a structure.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering excites me because it gives me the skills to tackle real world problems with solutions that work, and in that way enables me to help others.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? My favorite thing about the College of Engineering is the amount of world class researchers, scientists, and engineers that it allows me to meet and talk to. It is very cool to have a class taught by someone held in high regard in their field because you know you're learning from the best.

What is your ideal job after graduation? My ideal job is to work with something that ends up in space.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I would like to create something that enables people in more remote places that may lack certain amenities to have a quality of life similar to what we enjoy in the United States.

Samantha Lauren Laboy

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering is an art form. It allows one to utilize and develop both the creative and analytical sides of the brain which allows you to see the world with a new perspective. The details involved in the development processes, from the drawing board, to the countless prototypes/testing, and extensive data collection is what excites me the most. It gives me the opportunity to satisfy the curiosity I have about the world around me.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? The people. Most everyone you meet is passionate about engineering and have amazing ideas on how to innovate society. In addition, UTA is so diverse in its students that you are also able to learn about new cultures and their traditions that you may not have known about.

What is your ideal job after graduation? This is an answer that will continue to change and grow with me, however, at the current moment in time I would like to obtain my doctorate in biomedical engineering and go into research and development. The top research areas that I would love to become a part of would-be research in biological prosthetics, neuroscience, cardiovascular studies, or drug delivery/pharmaceuticals.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I ask myself this every day, and I don’t have the answer yet. I do want to contribute in some way to neurological research, however, I want to obtain all the knowledge I can about everything I am able to -- discoveries come during and innovation comes after.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering is exciting to me because I like solving problems, and helping people. By being an engineer, I get to do both.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? I like how diverse the College of Engineering is. There are people from all over the world and from all walks of life that I can talk to and learn from.

What is your ideal job after graduation? After graduation, I hope to get an entry level job at a civil engineering firm, and slowly work my way up to higher level positions.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I would like to design methods and materials for roads or buildings that are cheaper and more energy efficient, such as mixing waste plastic into asphalt for roads or using natural light in buildings.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering excites me because it allows us to bring our ideas to life, knowing that these ideas are capable of having a significant impact on the world. Through engineering, there are endless possibilities.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? I like that the College of Engineering gives us the necessary resources to succeed as well as providing plenty of opportunities for students like us to part in undergraduate research.

What is your ideal job after graduation? My ideal job would be to work somewhere where I can design and create robotic innovations.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I would like to create an innovation that could facilitate the movement of those with impairments using robotics.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering excites me because of all the innovative things it allows engineers to develop and create. It truly feels like the sky is the limit with the amount of knowledge and talent engineers possess. 

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? The College of Engineering at UTA is such a diverse community that it not only provides different perspectives in terms of academics due to so many different minds, but it also exposes you to many cultures. What I like most about this college is that you feel support among classmates, the professors, and even the administration to do good and succeed.

What is your ideal job after graduation? My ideal job after graduation is working in a company that has a good culture and allows me to create software that will be put to good use. The university has allowed me to receive ample experience working on software projects that could be used in the real world that would have some sort of impact. So with my experience and knowledge, I would truly love to be a part of an innovative project as my ideal job after graduation.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? The first research project I ever saw on campus was about a robot analyzing a sick patient using AI. It is an ongoing research project at our university and it’s something I’ve always found beyond interesting and would love to be a part of because it would not only be innovative in the tech field but a breakthrough in the medical world.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineering excites me because it is the study of our world and everything in it. Engineering helps move the world forward and being able to be a part of such a field is most definitely exciting.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? What I like most about UTA COE is the countless amount of opportunity for hands-on experience with research, working with professors and other avenues for experiences to add to your resume.

What is your ideal job after graduation?Due to the broad and versatile nature of IE, my ideal job after graduation would be in the technology and AI field.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I would like to contribute to innovations/breakthroughs in the artificial intelligence field.

Why does engineering excite you? Engineers utilize their skills and experiences to help society prosper. From drainage systems to skyscrapers, engineering is always helping people to enjoy life.

What do you like most about UTA College of Engineering? The College of Engineering here at UTA is a place full of resources and opportunities. The students here are always helping each other out and the professors are always available for you to contact with. Outside of classrooms, there are professional opportunities and research opportunities available for students to reach out to.

What is your ideal job after graduation? My ideal job is to start working in water resource engineering after graduation.

What engineering innovation/breakthrough would you like to create? I would like to work on improving underground drainage systems in cities and prevent flooding in the future.
