Vijai Mohan has worked at Amazon.com since 2006, beginning as a software development engineer in the U.S. and India and working his way up to senior software development engineer, principal software engineer, and principal applied scientist (personalization), to his current position, senior principal applied scientist.
Mohan has built large-scale distributed software systems in the areas of recommender systems, information retrieval, text/data mining, using machine learning (ranking, matrix factorization, deep neural nets) to improve product discovery and selection at Amazon.com.
His technical experience includes developing recommender systems, deep learning, machine learning, web crawlers, scrapers, text classifiers, product matching, large scale distributed transaction processing and search engines.
Over the years, he has engineered several mining algorithms to improve product pricing and enhanced the search/browse experience for Amazon.com customers by reducing duplicate search results and finding related product advertisements.
He began his career in 2004 as a software design engineer at SensorLogic, where he was voted the best employee for his leadership and engineering contributions while developing a Machine-to-Machine (M2M) platform aimed at monitoring soft real time systems.
