Abstract:

The next generation of aircraft designs are greatly influenced by drive for efficiency and “green” aviation initiatives. Commercial aerospace sectors have been aggressively implementing these initiatives over the last few decades with advanced composite structures, fly-by-wire systems and more electric aircraft designs. Composites offer many unique benefits such as high stiffness and strength, low maintenance cost, resistance to corrosion, and potential weight savings. This presentation will provide top level overview of design, manufacturing, analysis and certification of composite primary aircraft structure from an industry perspective. The overview will also include roadmap for developing cross-functional technologies to minimize risk during aircraft development cycle.

Bio:

Rushabh Kothari is a Senior Engineering Specialist in composite technologies at Bombardier Aerospace with nearly 10 years of experience in a new product development and aircraft certification. He has executed and developed composite structures certification programs for clean sheet business and commercial aircraft designs. He has been a composites integration lead on the CSeries commercial aircraft program and currently a technical lead on Global 7000 business jet program. Kothari earned his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University and his bachelor’s degree in aerospace from Auburn University.
