Living/Learning Options Available at New Dormitory

March 8, 2004

Kalpana Chawla (KC) Hall, opening for the fall 2004 semester, will be the newest dorm at UTA. The 421-bed residence hall will contain the first building-wide living/learning environment on campus. Students living in KC Hall will be part of a Learning Community (LC), a cluster based on a particular major, discipline or common interest; and/or a Freshmen Interest Group (FIG), groups of 15 to 25 students who enroll in three core courses together. Everyone who lives in KC Hall will be in an LC; freshmen have the option of also living in a FIG.

Engineering students may join the Engineering LC, and freshmen engineering students may wish to join either the Great Thinkers in Science and Engineering FIG (for engineering students in the Honors College) or the Harbison Community FIG (for computer science majors).

Incoming students wanting to live in a Learning Community or Freshman Interest Group in Kalpana Chawla Hall should: · Submit the application for admission to UTA to the Admissions Office (http://www.uta.edu/admissions). · Apply for housing (http://www.uta.edu/housing). · Complete a Residential Mav Scholar application (http://www.uta.edu/lc).
