Industrial Engineering Student Wins 2nd Leadership Scholarship

March 10, 2004

Ricardo Lopez, a senior majoring in industrial engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington, is the only two-time winner of the Outstanding Student Leader Scholarship presented by the Leadership Consortium of North Texas Colleges and Universities. Lopez received the scholarship during a ceremony in February.

Lopez was recognized for taking significant leadership positions in student organizations on the UTA campus and for making important contributions to the campus community. Lopez has been the president of UTA’s Student Alumni Association for the past two years, is a member of several student organizations such as Alpha Pi Mu, the industrial engineering honor society, and has conducted the Foundations in Leadership course for UTA’s Leadership Academy hosted by the Department of Student Activities. This May, he will become the first Leadership Academy Scholar to graduate from the program since its founding in 2002.

The Leadership Consortium was established in 1992 to provide quality student leadership training and professional development opportunities by sharing and combining information, ideas and resources. The Consortium is composed of 17 two- and four-year colleges and universities in North Texas.

“The award is a tremendous honor for me,” said Lopez, “because I was chosen from the best students from 17 colleges and universities who apply for this award each year. This would not be possible without the guidance and patience of my advisors here at UTA.” Lopez plans to pursue an MBA degree following his graduation this spring.
