Engineering Professor Named Visiting Professor at Two Universities

September 15, 2005

Computer Science & Engineering Professor Sajal Das has been honored as a Concurrent Professor of Fudan University in Shanghai, China during the university’s centennial celebration. As part of this recognition, Dr. Das will give an invited ceremonial presentation in September that will include possible topics for research collaborations with the computer science and engineering faculties at Fudan and UTA.

Dr. Das’ appointment at Fudan is the second he has received this year. In January, he was also appointed as an Adjunct/Visiting Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur. The Institute has about 1450 undergraduate and 850 postgraduate students and 300 faculty.

Fudan University ranks among the top three universities in China, with a current enrollment of more than 36,000 students. The 2,100 faculty members of Fudan University include over l,300 professors and associate professors, of which 24 have been admitted as members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The University is organizing the International Conference on Information Technology (CIT 2005), of which Dr. Das is the Vice Chair of the Networking and Mobile Computing Track.

Three delegates from Fudan University are planning to visit UTA in October to discuss fruitful collaborations and exchanges, not only with Dr. Das’ Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking but also with other faculty, departments and colleges at UTA. “I have been fortunate to supervise a student from Fudan University who received his Ph.D. at UTA this summer,” said Dr. Das. “He wrote an excellent dissertation, so I hope we can attract many more high quality students from there in the future.”
