IE Student Wins “Best Paper” at IEEE International Conference

Industrial Engineering Ph.D. candidate Veera Jawahar Vibeeshanan won the Best Paper Award at the IEEE’s 2007 International Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Robotics and Automation. This was the first time that Jawahar presented a paper at a conference.

The paper, based on his Ph.D. research, was titled “Eta-Filter: An Evidence Theoretic Approach to Unmanned Ground Vehicle Localization” and was co-authored with Industrial Engineering’s Dr. Brian Huff and Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering’s Dr. Kamesh Subbarao. Jawahar was one of five presenters selected from 93 papers accepted as finalists. Competing papers were presented by students from UT Austin, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard and MIT.
