Kelcy Warren Named Distinguished Alumnus of College of Engineering

October 29, 2007

Civil Engineering alumnus Kelcy L. Warren, CEO and chairman of Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. in Dallas, was saluted at the UT Arlington Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Gala on October 20. He was the College of Engineering’s selection for the Distinguished Alumnus Award; only 27 individuals had received this honor during the life of the college. The Distinguished Alumnus Award honors graduates and former students who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to the University.

Warren received his bachelor’s degree from UT Arlington in 1978, but remained close to the College of Engineering, serving on advisory boards for the college and the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department. In 1997, he established a scholarship fund for UT Arlington engineering students and, in 2007, initiated a matching-grant challenge for contributions to the Wendell H. Nedderman Fund.

Warren has more than 25 years experience in the energy industry. From 1992 to 1996, Warren served as president, chief operating officer and director of Cornerstone Natural Gas. In 1996, he and Ray Davis founded Energy Transfer and began to aggregate underperforming natural gas assets with a plan to turn them into efficient, profitable systems.

Under their leadership, Energy Transfer became the third largest distributor of propane in the United States and the first company to lay a 42-inch-diameter pipeline in Texas. Energy Transfer currently owns approximately 15,000 miles of natural gas gathering and transportation pipelines, plus natural gas treating and processing assets, as well as three natural gas storage facilities, located mostly in Texas.

This is not the first occasion Kelcy Warren’s achievements have been recognized. In 2006, he received the Ernst & Young Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit. Warren is the current president of the Natural Gas Society of Texas.
