Dual-major Engineering Student Receives Another Honor

May 1, 2008

Christopher Harrison, an aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering senior at The University of Texas at Arlington, was recognized as an Outstanding Engineering Senior by the Technical Club of Dallas. The club, which was founded in 1919, bestows honors and cash awards to engineering students at UT Arlington, UT Dallas and Southern Methodist University.

Earlier this year, Chris received the UT Arlington College of Engineering’s Outstanding Student Leader Scholarship, which is sponsored by the LOPEZGARCIA GROUP and salutes a student who has demonstrated proactive and resourceful leadership qualities through participation in a wide range of activities. Harrison is the past president of the student chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the membership director of the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and president of the college’s Joint Council of Engineering Organizations, an umbrella organization comprised of 27 engineering student organizations.

Chris also organized the first “World Space Week” event on campus, celebrating the 50th anniversary of artificial satellites and the beginning of the space age. His aeronautical interests and academic achievements helped him to obtain a 2007 summer internship with Boeing at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

In addition to his engineering pursuits, Chris has served as a student representative in the Faculty Award Committee for the College of Engineering, a member of the All-Encompassing Tuition Review Committee and a member of the University Advisory Board.
