Engineering Dean Named “Engineer of the Year”

February 20, 2003

The DFW Mid-Cities Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) has named University of Texas at Arlington Dean of Engineering Dr. Bill D. Carroll “Engineer of the Year.” Carroll will receive the award during an awards banquet February 20 in conjunction with National Engineers Week.

DFW Mid-Cities Chapter President Lyndon Cox named several of Carroll’s qualities as reasons for his selection for the award. “We honor someone who exhibits professionalism, not only in their place of business but also in the community, someone who promotes the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and our chapter, someone who always gives an extra effort to achieve the best possible result,” said Cox. “Bill Carroll is all that and more.” As an example, he cited Carroll’s involvement in the chapter’s hosting of the TSPE state meeting last year in Arlington. “Bill Carroll’s cooperation and support of the event by having UTA as a corporate sponsor and exhibitor and his securing some outstanding UTA based speakers for some of the seminars made it one of the best liked and attended meetings we’ve had at the state level,” said Cox. “In addition, Dean Carroll has been very supportive of the importance of licensure for engineers, one of the cornerstones of TSPE, and was a great help and encouragement in the establishment of the student chapter of TSPE on the UTA campus last year.”

Carroll is a registered professional engineer a member of the TSPE. The DFW Mid-Cities Chapter includes the cities of Arlington, Grand Prairie, Irving, Mansfield, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Grapevine, Coppell, Southlake, Keller, & Colleyville. The chapter annually awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the DFW Mid-Cities region who are college bound for engineering studies and careers.
