Ratan Kumar, senior lecturer in the mechanical and aerospace engineering department, has received $195,000 towards a Nuclear Educational Curriculum Development grant from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The project goal is to enhance the lectures of the NE 4303 class Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics by developing and incorporating web-based simulations.
Such simulation tools will allow for better student comprehension of a mathematically intensive subject matter through animations and virtual labs. Lessons and instructional modules created will be shared with the other universities offering Nuclear Engineering programs.
