In conjunction with the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, held in Shanghai, China, the National Institute for Standards and Technology organized the Mobile Microrobotics Challenge. The Challenge was an invitation only affair.
Only seven teams were invited to participate, among those who earned a coveted spot was UT Arlington's own microrobotics team composed of M. Rashid Pac, Justry Weir, James Curzan, Kunal Raithatha and CoE faculty advisor professor Dan Popa. Although the UTA crew did not earn top honors, their microrobots, called Vibots, successfully demonstrated their capabilities.
For next year's event the team hopes to recruit new student members and perfect their microrobotic technology.
