National Merit Scholarship

UTA offers National Merit Scholar Finalists the National Merit Scholarship their incoming freshmen year. Students must take the PSAT/NMSQT® during the specified year, usually during junior year of high school, and be identified as a finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) to qualify for the scholarship.

UTA’s National Merit Scholarship is our premier scholarship that covers education costs up to $25,000 per year including:

  • Tuition and fees
  • Housing and meals in a UTA Residence Hall
  • Books
  • Non-resident fee waiver

The scholarship has a potential value of $100,000 over four years upon meeting the renewal requirements:

  • Full-time enrollment (12 UTA hours) each fall and spring
  • Minimum cumulative UTA GPA of 3.0
  • Earn a minimum of 30 UTA hours during fall/spring/summer

In addition, after the first year National Merit Scholars may qualify for a one-time $1,500 scholarship for a Study Abroad program by completing the following:

  • Meet the renewal requirements for the UTA National Merit Scholarship each year
  • Apply for the International Education Fee Scholarship through the Office of International Education (
  • Participate in a UTA study abroad program that earns UTA credits during this time
  • Submit a study abroad Cost of Attendance statement to the Scholarship Office (provided by the Office of International Education)
