Hunnicutt
Dr. Alex Hunnicutt

The Department of History is thrilled to announce that Dr. Wendell (Alex) Hunnicutt has been named UTA Undergraduate Faculty Advisor of the Year for 2020-21!

This university-wide award is open to faculty members who are designated as academic advisors for undergraduate or graduate students and staff members whose primary responsibility is the academic advisement of undergraduate or graduate students. Students are asked to nominate a qualifying individual who has made a significant positive impact on their educational careers.

Dr. Hunnicutt’s receipt of this honor is particularly noteworthy as he only began his appointment as an advisor for the Department of History in Spring 2020. Already well-known on campus for his award-winning performance as an Adjunct Instructor for the Department of History and the Women’s Studies program, Dr. Hunnicutt has proven to be every bit as effective and conscientious in helping guide students through their undergraduate programs of study as he is in the classroom.

As one of the students who nominated him for the award noted:

“Dr. Hunnicutt has made my time at UTA not only stress-free but also enjoyable. Just knowing that there is an advisor that is rooting for you to succeed as much as you do for yourself is more than anyone could even ask of an advisor, yet he always delivers. He is a caring, inspirational, respectful, resourceful, and understanding advisor who supports his students all he can, and that is why I wholeheartedly believe that Dr. Hunnicutt deserves this nomination for all his much-appreciated hard work.”

Dr. Hunnicutt is the second member of the History Department’s staff to receive this prestigious honor in just the past four years. He follows Nancy Gandre who was named UTA Undergraduate Faculty Advisor for 2017-18.

Congratulations, Dr. Hunnicutt!

On behalf of our students, staff, and faculty, “thank you” for the time and energy you continue to devote to our undergraduate mission and for helping to make the UTA Department of History the place #WhereHistoryIsMade.
