The Honors Distinction Scholarship

The Provost and the Dean of the Honors College of the University of Texas at Arlington are pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for outstanding first-time freshmen entering the university in Fall semester 2015.

The Honors Distinction Scholarship is the most generous award ever offered to undergraduate students at UT Arlington, providing up to $21,000 per year, contingent upon funding, for up to four consecutive years for education-related expenses. It is merit-based and is highly competitive. Eligibility requirements:

  • Minimum SAT score of 1300 (Critical Reading and Mathematics only) or ACT composite score of 30;
  • Admission to UT Arlington by February 13, 2015;
  • Admission to the Honors College at UT Arlington by February 13, 2015; and
  • Submission (delivered via regular mail, fax or in person–electronic submissions are not accepted) of all application materials for the Honors Distinction Scholarship by 5 pm CST, February 13, 2015.
    • Submission includes an essay response to a document-based critical thinking problem
    • Responses are ranked by a committee and the ten highest-ranked students are invited to UT Arlington for an interview in March 2015
    • Of those interviewees, up to five are awarded scholarships

The Honors Distinction Scholarships will be awarded, contingent upon funding, to students who matriculate in Fall 2015. Eligible students in all majors (as well as those who have not declared a major at the time of application) are encouraged to apply. To maintain their scholarships, awardees are required to:

  • achieve an overall GPA of 3.35 (on a 4-point scale) by the end of the freshman year and an overall 3.5 GPA thereafter through graduation;
  • complete at least 30 credit hours per year;
  • reside in UT Arlington residence hall for at least the freshman and sophomore years; and
  • make satisfactory progress, at least six Honors hours per year, toward the 24 credit hours of coursework stipulated for the Honors degree.

The Honors Distinction Scholarship cannot be stacked with other major UT Arlington scholarships. This determination is made solely by the Financial Aid Office.

Questions about the Honors Distinction Scholarship may be emailed to honors@uta.edu.

The deadline for submissions has passed.
