The Clery Act
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) is a federal law that requires institutions of higher education to comply with certain campus safety and security related requirements as a condition of their participation in federal financial aid programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
UTA is required to publish an Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report (the Report) to keep both prospective students and employees informed regarding campus crime and UTA’s safety and security related policies and procedures. The compilation of this Report is a collaborative effort between the UTA Police Department (UTAPD), The Title IX Office, The Environmental Health & Safety Office (EH&S), The Office of Emergency Management (OEM), The Division of Student Affairs, and The Office of Human Resources, and is coordinated and published by UTA’s Office of Legal Affairs.

Campus Security Authorities
The Report discloses crime statistics for CLERY CRIMES occurring in UTA’s CLERY GEOGRAPHY that have been reported to a UTA Campus Security Authority (CSA). The following are considered CSAs: (1) UTA’s police and security departments and any other individual who has a responsibility for campus security; (2) individuals or departments UTA specifies in its campus security policies as individuals or departments to which students and employees should report crimes; and (3) UTA officials who have significant responsibility for student and campus activities.
The campus community is encouraged to report all crimes to the UTAPD. When CSAs become aware of Clery crimes in situations where the involvement of the UTAPD is not applicable, they may still report the crime directly to the UTAPD or via the online CSA Incident Report Form. These measures will ensure all Clery crimes are included in UTA’s annual disclosure of crime statistics.
The Office of Legal Affairs will identify UTA’s CSAs every semester to remind CSAs of their responsibilities under the Clery Act. In addition, CSAs will receive annual CSA training as part of their employee compliance training.
