UTASCILT 17 (2010) Dates & LocationThe 17th Annual University of Texas at Arlington Student Conference in Linguistics and TESOL will be held on the campus of UT Arlington on February 19 and 20, 2010. Details for Presenters & AttendeesDriving?If you will be driving and plan to park on campus during the conference, you will need a temporary parking permit. Please let us know about your situation as soon as possible. Parking permits will be prepared for the registered attendees free of charge if we know ahead of time. Need a hotel?We recommend the Wingate Inn, which provides shuttles service between the airport and to the university. If you make your reservation at the Wingate, please specify that you are attending a university-sponsored event and ask for the UTA rate ($85/night). Another hotel you might consider is the Parkway Inn (817-860-2323), which is conveniently located within walking distance of the university. You may make your reservations by contacting the hotel directly. Finding Your Way HereThe closest airport to UTA is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). It is 20-30 minutes by car between DFW and UT Arlington. Be sure you're flying to the right airport if you need to come by airplane.
Keynote SpeakerOur keynote speaker will be Dr. William Croft. Dr. Croft received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1986. He is currently Professor of Linguistics at the University of New Mexico. Croft's areas of specialty are typology, semantics, cognitive linguistics, construction grammar, and evolutionary models of language change. His publications include Typology and Universals (2nd edition, 2003), Syntactic Categories and Grammatical Relations (1991), Explaining Language Change (2000), Radical Construction Grammar (2001) and Cognitive Linguistics (with Alan Cruse, 2004). Croft has held visiting positions at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. PurposeThe University of Texas at Arlington Student Conference in Linguistics & TESOL is a student-led conference specifically designed to give graduate students a chance to present their original research.
