Join the College of Science as we celebrate Black History Month with a free screening of the 2016 Oscar-nominated film "Hidden Figures." The film tells the story of a team of brilliant female African-American mathematicians who played a vital role at NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.

Special guest speaker Irene Pepperberg, Ph.D., adjunct research professor at Boston University, and affiliate in the Animal Behavior and Conservation Program at Hunter College, CUNY, will discuss her work with grey parrots. Her talk will be titled "Reflections on the Excitement (and Frustrations) of Science - 45 Years of Research on the Intelligence of Grey Parrots". Refreshments will be served at 3 p.m. with the talk to follow at 3:30 p.m.

Join us to cheer on our Health Professions student orgs as they compete in the first ever UTA Ethics Bowl. Each team will answer questions relating to medical ethics and judges will determine who moves on to the final round. Come and go as you have time during the event. Light refreshments will be served.

The Spring Swing fair is an excellent opportunity for students who plan to go into health profession fields to meet with recruiters and admissions staff from medical, dental, pharmacy, optometry, physician assistant, nursing and other health profession schools from across Texas and around the country.

UTA Planetarium outdoor plaza, UTA campus

Arlington is in the prime viewing area for the Great North American Eclipse (total solar eclipse) which will occur on the morning through early afternoon of April 8, and UTA and the Planetarium will be hosting a watch party! This event is expected to draw visitors to the D-FW Metroplex from across the state and around the country. The Planetarium plans several other events in the days preceding the eclipse; see the full events schedule here.

The College of Science's annual Discover Student Research Symposium is a celebration of the research excellence of our students and provides an opportunity for students to showcase their research projects in poster format. A period of online judging by a panel of faculty and alumni judges is followed by a day of in-person poster displays and presentations by the finalists on April 19, culminating with an awards presentation. 2024-Climate Smart Agriculture Symposium

To promote active learning, enhance mathematics research, and facilitate academic exchange, the department regularly hosts a variety of special events, ranging from summer experience for middle school, high school, and undergraduate students to colloquia and seminars for faculty and graduate students to international conferences that bring world renowned researchers to UTA. These special events and activities have become an integral part of departmental education, research, and increased visibility.
