University College soon to be Division of Student Success

Tuesday, February 27, 2018

University College will be renamed the Division of Student Success, a part of UTA's Academic Affairs, effective March 15.

Ashley Purgason has been named associate vice provost for the division. Dr. Purgason previously served as assistant vice president for strategic initiatives in the Office of the President, and she was assistant dean for undergraduate research and student advancement in the College of Science. She teaches courses in biology.

The division will continue to be a focal point for first-year students and play an important role in their development, learning, and success. The new division will actively collaborate with schools and colleges to deploy academic support services. Additionally, the unit will help returning learners and students seeking to complete their degrees in a timely manner.

The Division of Student Success is located in Ransom Hall and is home to the University Advising Center, the McNair Scholars Program, Trio-Student Support Services, University Tutorial and Supplemental Instruction, Testing Services, and University Studies. The division is sponsors programming such as the Success Series workshops, Freshman Interest Groups, the Resource Hotline, and Success U.

The Interdisciplinary Studies program will move to the Honors College under the direction of Interim Dean Kevin Gustafson. Interdisciplinary Studies provides students the opportunity to develop individualized programs of study—often in conjunction with existing certificates and minors—to meet their personal, academic, and professional goals.
