Panel discusses opioid abuse in Texas

A panel discussion on opioid abuse in Texas comes to campus 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the SEIR Building.

Hosted by The Texas Tribune in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, the event is a wide-ranging discussion of the impacts of the opioid crisis on our state and nation, and the public policy solutions in the works to address them. 

Panelists are:

State Rep. Garnet Coleman, D-Houston; member of the House Public Health Committee and the House Select Committee on Opioids and Substance Abuse

State Rep. J.D. Sheffield, R-Gatesville; vice chair of the House Public Health Committee and member of the House Select Committee on Opioids and Substance Abuse

Additional panelists will be announced closer to the event date.

Marissa Evans, health and human services reporter for The Texas Tribune, will moderate the event.
