Driving personal vehicles for University business
UTA employees are discouraged from using their personal vehicles to conduct official University business. When the employees do this, their personal auto insurances will be primary at all times.
The UT System “Hired/Non-Owned” insurance policy provides liability-only coverage for an employee using his or her personal vehicle while conducting official University business. The coverage is secondary to the employee's personal auto insurance, used only for property damage or bodily injury to third parties, and does not provide any coverage for physical damages sustained to the employee's vehicle.
Additionally, an employee involved in an accident while driving a University-owned vehicle may be responsible for the vehicle and may be personally liable for the entire loss if the University vehicle was used by an unauthorized individual, for an unauthorized purpose, or in an unauthorized manner.
