Defending the First Amendment

Bart Weiss, UT Arlington associate professor of film and director of the Dallas Video Festival, was quoted in a KRLD 1080 AM story about YouTube blocking the trailer for the anti-Islamic film the “The Innocence of Muslims” in Bangladesh and Pakistan. “People who believe in the freedom of speech, the way I do, are always in the position of defending the worst case scenarios. You can’t say, ‘I believe in freedom of speech’ and think that applies only to nice people saying nice things,” Weiss said.

Making physics news

UT Arlington physics professor Kaushik De was featured in a story on the website Quantum Diaries about a partnership between Brookhaven National Lab and UT Arlington to make a computer workload management system used by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider more widely available. De was one of the lead developers of the system called PanDA. Brookhaven and UT Arlington will receive $1.7 million in U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science funding for the new project.
