Discoveries of the far north

Ashley Asmus, graduate research assistant in the UT Arlington College of Science, was featured in a story and video on Frontier Scientists, a website set up to share news about discoveries in the Alaskan Arctic. Asmus is working with associate professor Laura Gough, who explores the effects that a warming climate is having on plant communities in the Alaskan tundra.

Top of their class

Three University of Texas at Arlington kinesiology faculty members will receive national awards for their work in the field of athletic training from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the Fort Worth Business Press reported. Those recognized are Cynthia Trowbridge, an associate professor; Paul Krawietz, clinical assistant professor; and Louise Fincher, chair of the kinesiology department.

Accelerated political spending

Allan Saxe, UT Arlington associate professor of political science, was quoted in a Fort Worth Star-Telegram story about the escalated spending in the race for Senate District 10, which includes Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield, Colleyville and other areas of south and Northeast Tarrant County. “SD 10 is a very high profile Senate district primarily because of Wendy Davis holding the seat for the past few years,” he said.
