Inspiring art

Ya’Ke Smith, a UT Arlington assistant professor in art and art history, was interviewed on San Antonio Living, a WOAI NBC News 4 television program, about the upcoming Juneteenth, a celebration of the arts. Smith is a filmmaker and hails from San Antonio’s East Side. He is starting a youth filmmaker award as part of the Juneteenth celebration, which is June 13-15.

Stand down for safety

Tens of thousands of employers and more than 1 million workers across the country are expected to join the Occupational Safety and Health Administration this week in safety stand-downs to focus on preventing fatalities from falls, Construction Equipment and Better Roads reported. The University of Texas at Arlington joined OSHA staff and Balfour Beatty Construction to kick off events across the state of Texas Monday.

About a dozen graduating seniors from North Crowley High School's class of 2014 were receiving scholarships to The University of Texas at Arlington, The Crowley Star reported.
