Diversity Award

The Association of Opinion Journalists announced that Julian Rodriguez, a UT Arlington Broadcast Communication lecturer and founder of UTA News en Español, is the 2015 recipient of the Barry Bingham Sr. Fellowship. The award recognizes an educator’s outstanding efforts to encourage and mentor college students of color in the field of journalism.

Under the dome

WFAA’s Good Morning Texas interviewed UT Arlington Planetarium director Levent Gurdemir about the domed theater's advanced technology and new shows. The planetarium is one of the largest and most sophisticated such facilities in Texas.

Fracking study

Think Progress mentioned the discovery of metals and chemical compounds in samples of drinking water taken near active natural gas wells in the Barnett Shale by UT Arlington researchers in an article about a Texas man suing a group of oil and gas companies after he received burns from a methane explosion near his house.

Alumna wins scholarship

Southstrand News reported that Krissy Wilder, a hospice home care nurse and current BSN student in the UT Arlington College of Nursing and Health Innovation, has been named one of four 2015 Mary Atmar Johnson scholarship winners.
