STEM academy

More than 100 freshmen students chosen from all junior highs throughout the Arlington school district will attend a new STEM Academy opening this fall through a partnership with UT Arlington, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Arlington schools Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos noted the STEM Academy during his annual state-of-the-district luncheon last week, the Star-Telegram reported in a separate piece.

Sea science

A new study led by UT Arlington provides more information about the immunity of sea stars and what that means for the coastal ecosystems they inhabit, Marine Science Today reported. Lauren Fuess, a biology doctoral student working with Laura Mydlarz, an associate professor of biology, led the study.

Best for vets

U.S. Veterans Magazine has named UT Arlington one of the Top Veteran-Friendly Schools in the nation. The magazine’s annual "Best of the Best" results lists also selected companies, supplier diversity programs, VBOs and SDVBOs, government and law enforcement agencies, and franchises that are tops when it comes to being veteran-friendly.

Best of the best

Hispanic Network Magazine included UT Arlington in its annual “Best of the Best” schools list.  The publication polled hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies for its 2015 Best of the Best evaluations with a goal of creating an environment of teamwork in which Latinos, Latinas, Hispanics, Native Americans and other minorities have access to all applicable business and career opportunities.
