Event to feature all-electric car

UTA students will run an all-electric formula car in the 16th annual Texas Autocross Weekend, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the UTA campus, The Dallas Morning News reported. Sixteen teams from 10 universities and UTA will compete this weekend in their Formula Society of Automotive Engineers cars. "Everyone is interested in the electric cars: students, researchers, industry. It's not only the future, it's the present," said Bob Woods, a UTA professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and longtime adviser to the UTA's student team.

Dallas walkability study

KRLD 1080 AM interviewed Shima Hamidi, director of the Institute of Urban Studies and an assistant professor of planning in UTA’s College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs, about UTA’s new project to analyze the walkability of downtown Dallas. “We are covering every street, segment and intersection in the downtown Dallas area,” Hamidi said. MSN audio also aired the KRLD segment. 

Award of Merit

Joe Lundy, adjunct professor in the UTA Civil Engineering Department, has received the Award of Merit from the American Society for Testing and Materials International's Committee on Concrete Pipe, ASTM International reported. The prestigious award, which includes being named a Fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards.

Students, professor in show

Several UTA students are participating in Conduit Gallery's “Paper Weight” show, a exhibit of drawings from current and recent students of artist and UTA professor Stephen Lapthisophon, CultureMap Dallas and The Dallas Morning News reported. The rising talents explore everything from the issues of black identity and image to emotions conveyed in stark black and white.

Business college sponsors event

UTA’s College of Business was mentioned in StreetInsider and many other media as the cosponsor of the luncheon celebrating Fort Worth Business’ Chief Financial Officer of the Year award in Fort Worth.
