Presidential talk

Allan Saxe, UTA associate professor of political science, talked about the meaning behind a Donald Trump presidential victory on Dallas' KLIF 570 AM and WREC 600 AM in Memphis, Tenn. He also talked with Hal Jay on WBAP 820 AM about Trump and voters approving the new Arlington stadium for the Texas Rangers.

Stadium vote

UTA’s Allan Saxe, an associate professor of political science, said he believed voters would approve the new stadium in Arlington, the Star-Telegram reported. An Associated Press story on the stadium also ran in the San Antonio Express-News, the Charlotte, N.C. Observer, The New York Times and several other media outlets. Voters did approve the stadium.

Entrepreneur to speak

Rags-to-riches entrepreneur and philanthropist John Barfield of Michigan will visit North Texas to detail his impressive journey from a dirt-poor sharecropper's son to owner of a $2 billion business enterprise, The Dallas Morning News reported. He will speak at a free event at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at Lone Star Auditorium in the Maverick Activities Center at The University of Texas at Arlington, 500 W. Nedderman Drive. 

Groundwater study

UTA chemists have partnered with Apache Corp. to conduct a baseline water quality study of groundwater and surface water in the newly discovered Alpine High resource play in West Texas, Water Technology reported.

Environmental training

UTA’s Environmental Training Institute in the Division of Enterprise Development is offering a number of seminars across the Southwest this month, next month and in January 2017, TPO Magazine reported.

Alum in Tyler

Dr. J. Brant Buchinger was named a new provider at Tyler, Texas-based CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Ob/Gyn, the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported. Buchinger received a bachelor’s degree in biology from UTA.

Student helps with app

Fernando Campa, a UTA undergraduate, is helping a University of Houston researcher and his team develop a smart phone app that will allow users to test water for pathogens, ScienceMag reported.

UTA film

A fantasy short film titled “Write Off the Page” features UTA student filmmaker Nathaniel Avila and stars UTA student Stephanie Parajon, PublicNow reported. Dream Builders, a show on MyArlingtonTV is featuring the film.

Presidential prediction

Allan Saxe, UTA associate professor of political science, said Tuesday he predicts Hillary Clinton would win the presidential election, KFAB 1110 AM in Omaha, Neb., reported in an extensive interview with Saxe.
