Pride and honor

UTA student Phyllis McGeath graduated Friday in honor of her son - a Marine who was killed in action before he finished his degree. Her story continues to garner national attention, with interviews on the Fox News Network Sunday morning program, Fox and Friends, as well as KTVT CBS 11, WFAA ABC 8, KXAS NBC 5 and KGBT CBS 4 in the Rio Grande Valley.

UTA scientists participated in the American Geophysical Union's Fall Meeting in San Francisco on Dec. 14, where scientists from various institutes including NASA, UTA and the University of Hawaii presented an overview of the 2017 total solar eclipse, Science World Report, and MyInforms reported. 

AI mental health tool

UTA Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Fillia Makedon, and Vassilis Athitsos, associate professor of computer science and engineering, are combining computing power and psychiatric expertise to design an artificial intelligence system that can assess attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD, Awaken reported. 

Electoral college

UTA Associate Professor of Political Science Allan Saxe was interviewed by KTKS FM 104 in Cocoa Beach, Fla., WREC 600 AM in Memphis, Tenn. and WOOF 99.7 FM in Dothan, Al., about the allegations that Russia hacked the U.S. election process and about the upcoming meeting of the electoral college.

UTA’s men’s basketball team has hung on for an 8th straight win, scoring 56-51 over Bradley, The Associated Press, Yahoo Sports and many other media reported.

Eli Ochoa, president and CEO of ERO Architects and a UTA alumnus, recently completed work on the McAllen Performing Arts Center, Progress Times reported.
