Fighting malware

Christoph Csallner, an associate professor of computer science and engineering at UTA, wrote an op-ed column in The Conversation about the fight against malware attacks. The op-ed also appeared in The Bismarck Tribune in North Dakota, the Montana Standard, Odessa American and many other media outlets.

Eye development study

Matthew Fujita, a UTA assistant professor of biology, has received national funding for a project which uses frogs as a model to investigate how differences in habitat affect the functions and development of the eye, Dallas Innovates and Health Medicine Network reported.

Untreated concussions

The Asian Age quoted Cynthia Trowbridge, a UTA associate professor of kinesiology, in an article about untreated concussions. Trowbridge noted that young brains differ from adult brains in peril.

Movin' Mavs featured

Arlington Today Magazine profiled the Movin’ Mavs wheelchair basketball team, including interviews with Coach Doug Garner and student athlete Abby Dunkin.

Physics help for the stage

Dennis Maher, a UTA Department of Theatre Arts associate professor, is set to play Albert Einstein in an upcoming one-man show at Theatre Arlington, the Dallas Observer reported. To make sure the equations in the play are realistic, Maher is being coached by Ben Jones, UTA College of Science physics professor.

Student debt history

The Good Men Project published an op-ed on the historical roots of the student debt crisis written by UTA History Professor Thomas Adam. The column originally appeared in The Conversation.

Fed president talk

Reuters reported that UTA will host Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Robert Kaplan for a moderated Q&A before the Accounting Department’s annual Continuing Professional Education or CPE Day.

Emergency exercise

UTA hosted an active-shooter emergency exercise on Monday, KDFW FOX 4 reported.

Campus carry

WBAP 820 AM reported that the Texas campus carry law went into affect on community college campuses. The report mentioned that UTA has had no issues surrounding the law.

New government relations manager

PPAI Media announced alumnus Joseph Landeros as their new government relations manager. Landeros earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from UTA.

Alumnus selected as clinic manager

The University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry reported that alumnus Chris Cadwell has been named the new clinic manager for the school’s predoctoral clinics. Cadwell earned a business administration degree from UTA.
