The University of Texas at Arlington has been selected by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to serve as an OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Center.

This new addition to the UT Arlington Division for Enterprise Development will serve safety and health instructional needs throughout Region VI of the federal government (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas).

The OTI Education Center program plays a key role within OSHA’s safety and health mission. The Education Center will offer a full complement of OSHA Training Courses to help insure employers a safe and healthful work environment and enable employees to recognize, avoid, and prevent unsafe and hazardous work practices. Additionally targeted programs provide community outreach, opportunities in Spanish and other languages, as well as youth initiatives designed to educate the emerging work force.

“Our University possesses the necessary experience and infrastructure to establish and operate a successful OSHA Education Center serving the entire region, said John D. Hall, UT Arlington vice president for administration and campus operations. “The Division for Enterprise Development leadership and affiliate organizations throughout the UT System and beyond are committed to working collaboratively with key educational, governmental, and industry partners to ensure we meet and exceed the expectations of this important, ongoing program.”

Training delivered through this OTI Education Center will help ensure employers that employees receive standardized, verifiable health and safety training that includes industry specific topics with an emphasis on the highest risk activities, said Teresea Madden Thompson, assistant vice president for UT Arlington Enterprise Development.

“This designation from OSHA is a testament to skills and expertise we have on this campus,”she said. “To be the educational leader for OSHA is an honor and we look forward to working with the safety community in delivering these courses.”

Contract training courses will be available immediately. The first course catalog for this new training program will be available in March. Open enrollment course offerings will be published on The University of Texas at Arlington Web site:
