ARLINGTON - After helping launch the campus’ highly successful OneBook program, English Professor Laurie Porter is stepping down as co-chair. Dr. Porter is retiring at the end of the first summer session and Dr. Chris Conway of the Department of Modern Languages will be the new co-chair.“Dr. Porter was an outstanding choice to help launch a program like this given her experience and love of literature and her dedication to excellence,” said Dr. Dawn Remmers, who is the director of University Advising, Student Success & Testing Services and OneBook co-chair. “However, I feel that Dr. Conway will be able to build upon what she has started and take the program to the next level. I am excited about the possibilities.”

The OneBook choice for 2008-09 is “The History of Love,” an award-winning book that has been translated into more than 25 languages, voted’s Number One Novel of the Year and shortlisted for the prestigious Orange Prize.

"The History of Love is an exciting novel about the capacity of people to conquer trauma, distance and time to achieve connection and solidarity with one another,” said Conway. “I look forward to working with the OneBook team and all members of the UT Arlington community to facilitate a rewarding year of dialogue, reflection and inspiration around the themes of this rich novel."
