Graduation Celebration to feature noted journalist, fireworks display

ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington will bid farewell to the graduating class of 2008 with its annual Graduation Celebration Friday, May 9.

Special guest speaker at Graduation Celebration is CBS Washington correspondent and “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer. Schieffer has been with CBS News for 39 years. He served as anchor on the Saturday edition of “CBS Evening News” for 23 years. He has been Chief Washington correspondent since 1982 and moderator of “Face the Nation” since 1991. He served as interim anchor of the “CBS Evening News” from March 2005 to August 2006. Schieffer is one of the few journalists to have covered all four of the major Washington national assignments: the White House, the Pentagon, Department of State and Congress.

The celebration will also include a salute from the Carlisle Cannons, a performance by the UT Arlington Festival Band, and remarks from UT Arlington students and administrators, including UT Arlington President James D. Spaniolo. The ceremony will close with a dazzling fireworks display, and will be followed with a party and concert featuring the Eli Young Band.
