ARLINGTON - The Maverick Speakers Series at The University of Texas at Arlington will present a lecture by Ronald Takaki, professor of ethnic studies at the University of California, Berkeley at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in the Rosebud Theatre in the E. H. Hereford Center, 300 W. First St.

Takaki has taught more than 20,000 students and has written a dozen books. One of them, "A Different Mirror," won the American Book Award and sold more than half a million copies. Another, "Strangers from a Different Shore: A History of Asian-Americans," was selected by the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the 100 best non-fiction books of the 20th century. He is the grandson of immigrant Japanese plantation workers.

The event is free, and no tickets are required. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.
