Maverick pride will cover the community as The University of Texas at Arlington celebrates Homecoming 2017 Nov. 5-12.

UTA’s network of more than 200,000 alumni, 65 percent of whom live in North Texas, as well as families, friends and supporters are invited to join in the festivities all week long.

The schedule of events includes volleyball and basketball games, a street festival, a parade, a 5K walk and run, and the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards.

“Homecoming is a special time for Mavericks, from current students to recent graduates and well-established alumni,” said Lisa Nagy, interim vice president for Student Affairs.

“We hope everyone who celebrates the blue, white and orange will return to campus, network with each other, connect with old friends, see the growth and feel the energy that our University exudes today.”

UTA encourages Downtown Arlington businesses to join in the fun by decorating storefronts with blue, orange and white.

The most impressive display will be recognized with a Most Spirited award.

The elegant Distinguished Alumni Awards banquet is Friday, Nov. 10. Seven honorees will be recognized for their significant professional achievement and community engagement.

The UTA volleyball team will play three times during Homecoming week. The team takes on Texas State at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6. Louisiana Monroe comes in at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. The team plays Louisiana Lafayette at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, which also is Senior Night. All matches are at College Park Center.

The Movin’ Mavs Wheelchair Basketball team will host a tournament featuring men’s and women’s games on Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11.

The most exciting day of the week will be Saturday, Nov. 11, when the campus will be buzzing with activities all day long:

  • The annual Homecoming 5K Walk/Run begins at 10 a.m. and will wind through campus with participants raising money for UTA’s Emergency Assistance Fund.
  • The UTA women’s basketball team takes on Incarnate Word at 2:30 p.m. at College Park Center.
  • A street festival begins at 3 p.m. on Spaniolo Drive.
