School of Social Work ranking

OnlineMasters.com named UTA’s School of Social Work one of the best online master’s in social work programs for 2019, Connecticut’s Stamford Advocate reported. The website’s research identifies 45 top programs in the nation based on curriculum quality, program flexibility, affordability and graduate outcomes.

Texas Genomics Core Alliance

The University of Texas at Arlington and Texas A&M University formed the Texas Genomics Core Alliance, SeedWorld reported.

Snake discovered

A UTA team has named a new species of snake discovered in the stomach of another snake, KTVT CBS 11, Newswire Report and Abilene’s KTXS ABC 12 reported. The tropical reptile Cenaspis aenigma—Latin for “enigmatic dinner snake”— originally appeared in National Geographic. Jonathan Campbell, herpetologist and biology professor, led the research team.

Professor named journal editor

Krishnan Rajeshwar, UTA Distinguished Professor of chemistry and biochemistry, was appointed editor of the ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology, Newswise reported.

Helping Ethiopia

Sahadat Hossain, UTA civil engineering professor and director of the Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability, was part of a story about the Sendafa Sanitary Landfill Plant in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, The Reporter said in an article about changes at the landfill. Hossain was invited to be a resource person to help with eventually opening up the landfill again.
