Top human resources ranking
According to College Choice, UTA was ranked No. 5 nationally as the best place to earn a master's degree in the fast-growing field of human resources, Targeted News Service reported.
President's testimony
UTA President Vistasp Karbhari testified before the state House and Senate appropriations committees about the University’s capital spending request to replace a building that houses the School of Social Work, the Austin American-Statesman reported in a story recapping early testimony from university officials from across the state.
3D creations
Kyungsuk Yum, a UTA assistant professor in the Materials Science and Engineering Department, has been awarded a five-year, $500,000 National Science Foundation Early Career Development, or CAREER, grant to design and develop bioinspired 3D materials with programmed shapes and motions, Phys.org, TechSite and other websites reported. The research could transform the way soft engineering systems or devices are designed and fabricated.
Team effort
Ramtin Madani, a UTA assistant professor in electrical engineering, is leading a team in a contest to make computer searches more efficient and faster, Dallas Innovates reported.
Inaugural class
Jon Weidanz, UTA associate vice president for research, is one of the 66 faculty, scientists and administrators in the inaugural class of Senior Members of the National Academy of Inventors, Targeted News Service reported.
Using social channels
Peggy Semingson, UTA associate professor in the College of Education, said using social media and social channels in her online classroom is invaluable, a UT System blog reported. Semingson, who won a UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award in 2013, said she uses YouTube as one such channel. Semingson has 3,000 subscribers, and the content has been viewed for more than 1.7 million minutes.
Alumni delivers address
Jim McClelland, a professor of history and the dean of liberal arts at the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College, will give the keynote address the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association’s 245th annual meeting and breakfast Feb. 18, Connections in Alexandria, Va., reported. McClellan, a UTA graduate, was a 1997 recipient of the University's Distinguished Alumni Award.
Helping wth project
Projecto Immigrante has launched its free citizenship campaign for legal residents who meet requirements for citizenship, La Estrella reported. The project is making alliances with universities like UTA to carry out its social service programs.
Taekwondo champ
A UTA student, AJ Munoz, won her third consecutive title in a taekwondo competition, Targeted News Service reported.
