Answering workforce needs
Preparing college students to become highly skilled professionals and answer the needs of a changing workforce are demands that UTA faces now and in the future, UTA President Vistasp Karbhari wrote in a TribTalk op-ed. TribTalk is a publication of The Texas Tribune. Karbhari said that vision requires increased options for Texans of all backgrounds and at any stage of life.
New musculoskeletal therapies
UTA is partnering with the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the Indiana University School of Medicine to study new therapies to improve musculoskeletal conditions, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported. Marco Brotto, the George W. and Hazel M. Jay Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, is leading the UTA effort.
CAPPA featured
UTA’s College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs will be featured in an exhibition on "Water and Human Settlements" that Dean Adrian Parr was invited to curate for the European Cultural Center, Targeted News Service reported. The exhibitions are in conjunction with the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale.
Medal of Honor winner
The city of Arlington on Tuesday remembered Col. Neel Kearby on the 75th anniversary of his death, Arlington-TX.gov reported. Kearby graduated from North Texas Agricultural College, UTA’s predecessor, with a degree in business administration. Kearby, a World War II pilot, is Arlington’s only Medal of Honor recipient.
UTA duo to perform
WoodWired, a contemporary flute and clarinet duo that performs using live looping software and electronics, will perform at Leon Memorial Hall on the campus of Adams State University, Colorado’s Alamosa News reported. Cheyenne Cruz, a UTA lecturer in clarinet and music theory, is part of the duo. WoodWired’s debut album, In The Loop, was released in March 2018 under the UTA Records label.
Pi Day Math Festival
UTA is one of many universities and organizations participating in the third annual Pi Day Math Festival at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas, Dallas Weekly reported.
Quiz bowl
UTA students competed in the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association’s Quiz Bowl at Howard Payne University last week, the Brownwood News reported.
Alumni named CIO
David Turner, a financial services and consulting veteran, has been named chief information officer of Arlington-based Texas Trust Credit Union, the Fort Worth Business Press reported. Turner earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from UTA.
