Basketball honors

UTA men’s basketball coach Chris Ogden was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. UTA women’s basketball head coach Krista Gerlich also received the conference’s top honor for coaches, and player Cierra Johnson was voted Sun Belt Player of the Year, NBCDFW.com reported.

Scholarship milestone

The UTA Mavericks Spirit Debit Reward card, issued by Texas Trust Credit Union, has earned $100,000 for scholarships at the university, CUInsight reported.

Tattoo therapy

Research by December Maxwell, UTA doctoral student, indicates sexual assault survivors may get tattoos as a way to heal from trauma, CNN reported.

Recycled roadways

Sahadat Hossain, director of UTA's Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability and civil engineering professor, said in a Houston Chronicle story that widespread adoption of an asphalt mix that includes post-consumer recycled plastic on roadways could happen soon if policymakers act quickly.

STEM education

UTA is partnering with UT Tyler on a collaborative grant from the National Science Foundation to prepare students to teach STEM programs at the community college level, the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported.
