Architecture alumna profiled
Margarita Aguirre, who earned her master’s degree in architecture from UTA in 2016, is working for HKS and is part of the team designing Globe Life Park, the soon-to-be new home of the Texas Rangers, The Dallas Morning News reported in a Cheryl Hall profile on Aguirre.
Artist honored
Dallas artist Stephen Lapthisophon, a senior lecturer in the UTA Department of Art + Art History, was named the Dallas Art Fair’s artist/educator honoree for 2019, The Dallas Morning News reported in a profile about Lapthisophon, who is legally blind.
Cardiovascular disease-depression link studied
Jody Greaney, a UTA assistant professor of kinesiology, is using a National Institutes of Health grant to question and better understand the relationship between cardiovascular disease and depression, Dallas Innovates reported.
Recycled plastic roads
Sahadat Hossain, UTA professor of civil engineering, discussed the potential of future roads being made of recycled plastic or a slurry that includes recycled plastic on the FutureTech podcast. Hossain is also the director of the UTA Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability.
Lessening natural disaster impact
UTA researchers are examining how to understand and lessen the impact of catastrophes similar to Hurricane Harvey in the future, HPCwire reported. The UTA team reanalyzed the flooding in Houston using dynamic wave modeling and high-resolution terrain data to publish a new paper on the subject in MDPI, an academic journal.
Recruiting year round
Yassmin Lee, executive director of the Fort Worth school district’s talent acquisition and development department, said the district is on the ground at UTA in terms of making recruitment a year-round effort, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

UTA’s annual bed races event, in its 39th year, was featured on KTVT CBS 11.
UTA alumna appointed
Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Bailey Wynne of Dallas to the statewide Health Coordinating Council, Targeted News Service reported. Wynne received a master’s degree in health care administration from UTA. She currently works at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
