Startups selected
Two startup businesses with UTA ties have been selected for an international accelerator program, illustrating the University's commitment to entrepreneurship and impactful research commercialization, Scienmag reported.
Product/consumer study
Narayan Janakiraman, UTA assistant professor of marketing, co-wrote an article for the American Marketing Association website about how lowering the price of products can influence consumers to think that those products are of lesser quality. The article was based on a research study published in the Journal of Marketing.
Using near-infrared light
Hanli Liu, a UTA bioengineering professor, is using a NASA grant to study the use of near-infrared laser light on the brain in an effort to improve astronauts’ cognitive and memory function during space missions, Science and Technology Research News reported.
Coral reef research
The University of Texas at Arlington is one of five institutions collaborating on how to address the outbreak of a disease that is devastating coral reef communities in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Mirage News reported. Laura Mydlarz, UTA professor of biology, is a co-investigator for the project, titled “Predicting the Spread of Multi-Species Coral Disease Using Species Immune Traits.”
ArlingCon this weekend
UTA is hosting the fifth annual ArlingCon this Saturday, Arlington Voice and DFW Child reported. ArlingCon is a convention for comic, anime and sci-fi enthusiasts.
