Measuring temperatures in hypersonic flight systems

Panos Shiakolos, a UTA mechanical engineering professor, is working on developing a way to more accurately measure temperatures on hypersonic flight systems in extreme conditions, where temperatures potentially could reach thousands of degrees Fahrenheit, Dallas Innovates, Bioengineer.org, France’s Newstrotteur and many other media websites reported.

Groundbreaking treatment for cranial injuries

A UTA team, led by Associate Professor Venu Varanasi, is researching a groundbreaking treatment to accelerate the healing of cranial injuries, Mirage News reported. The project has received significant funding support from the National Institutes of Health.

Esports certification

UTA has added a new, for-credit esports certification to its academic offerings, the Fort Worth Business Press reported in a story about the budding area.

Oozeball event

UTA’s annual Oozeball event was featured on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram website. Proceeds from the mud volleyball event benefited UTA’s Emergency Assistance Fund.

No UTA polling places

Tarrant County officials have no plan to offer campus polling places, like those previously held at UTA, for the upcoming 2020 election, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Visiting Pakistan university

Representatives from six universities, including UTA, visited Mohammad Ali Jinnah University in Karachi, Pakistan’s The Nation reported.

Pence reflections

Hunter Pence, who played baseball at UTA and Arlington High, reflected on his year with the Texas Rangers as the baseball team closed down Globe Life Park with the final game Sunday, Dallas Sports Fanatic reported.

Suburban women factor

Rebecca Deen, chair of the UTA Department of Political Science, said suburban women voters could be a deciding factor in the 2020 presidential race, the Texas Standard and Austin’s KUT 90.5 FM reported.
