Fast growing
UTA was listed as one of the two fastest-growing colleges in Texas, the Dallas Business Journal reported. The story said UTA’s enrollment has grown from 33,239 in 2013 to 46,497 in 2018, a 40% growth rate.
Art teacher to the president
Sedrick Huckaby, a UTA associate professor of painting, suggested former President George W. Bush paint people he knows well but that other people don’t know well, Military Times reported in a story about Bush’s venture into painting wounded veterans he’s met. Huckaby has been an art teacher for the former president.
Protecting the coast
UTA is part of a research project aimed at protecting coastal communities and the surrounding ecosystems there, Homeland Security News reported.
Early voting sites cut back
A newly implemented change to election law is leaving a trail of shuttered early voting polling places across the state, including UTA, the Texas Tribune reported. The story quoted Gavin Mitchell, UTA student body president. The development felt like “a punch in the gut” to campus organizations that have worked to register as many students as possible and relished in having an on-campus site, especially for working students, he said. “To put it simply: those students will no longer be able to vote,” Mitchell said.
Harvey playing
UTA’s Maverick Theatre Company will present Harvey this weekend, Dallas CultureMap reported. The play was listed as one of the 12 best things to do in Dallas this weekend.
