Transportation for older adults
A multidisciplinary team of engineers and social workers from UTA is using a grant to improve transportation for older adults residing in assisted-living communities, 7thSpace reported. Kate Hyun, assistant professor of civil engineering, is leading the project, which is funded by a $248,628 grant from the National Institute of Transportation and Communities at Portland State University. Other members of the research team include Kathy Lee, assistant professor in the School of Social Work, and Caroline Krejci, assistant professor of industrial, manufacturing and systems engineering.
Best for vets
Axios co-founder Mike Allen hosted a series of one-on-one conversations in Dallas, on how to support veterans. Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams discussed how UTA is helping with the transition to civilian life, Axios reported.
Local artists at Amon Carter
The newly renovated Amon Carter Museum of American Art has expanded its holdings to include local artists to engage the community, Texas Monthly reported. Works by Sedrick Huckaby, UTA associate professor of painting, are among the new points of view added to the gallery walls.
Improving education
Lauren Anne St. John, UTA associate chair for clinical education, interviewed with Authority Magazine for her opinions on improving the U.S. educational system. St. John is an expert in creating solutions for clinical placement and oversees clinical management processes for graduate nursing programs. She spoke about compensation and training for faculty and utilizing technologies to enhance student achievement.
Impeachment inquiry
Rebecca Deen, UTA department chair of political science, spoke about the ongoing presidential impeachment proceedings on the Texas Standard. Deen said testimony indicates Energy Secretary Rick Perry and former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker were trying to set policy outside the official track.
