UTA tops in online nursing

The University of Texas at Arlington’s online accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program is ranked as the best in the United States by Nursing Process, Mirage News reported.

Testing longer lasting concrete

Ali Abolmaali, the chair of the UTA Civil Engineering Department, has been awarded a $653,000 contract by the Texas Department of Transportation to test longer-lasting concrete pipes embedded with polypropylene fibers for strength and durability, Scienmag and Bioengineer.org reported.

No link between violence, violent video games

Michael Ward, a UTA economics professor, has published a study in the journal Contemporary Economic Policy about how violent video games do not lead to violent behavior, India’s Dailyhunt reported. Dailyhunt is one of the world's top mobile applications for news, with 22 million users and 30 billion page views per month.

Assessing economic, ecological impacts

UTA civil engineer Yu Zhang is determining how best to assess the costly economic and ecological impacts of natural disasters on industries and waterways around the Neches River basin in southeast Texas, Coastal News Today reported. Zhang received grants from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the General Land Office for $482,529. 

UTA Thanksgiving feast

UTA prepared a Thanksgiving feast for students who couldn’t make it home for traditional Thanksgiving dinner, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. KTVT CBS 11 also ran a story on the UTA feast. 

New lawsuit challenging voting sites

The Texas Secretary of State is facing another lawsuit over a new law that eliminates temporary voting sites, The Dallas Morning News and Austin Chronicle reported. UTA hosted one of those temporary voting sites that was eliminated.
