Support for first-generation students in Texas

Texas nonprofit ScholarShot created a report card to score the state's public institutions on how well they serve first-generation, low-income students, and UTA is one of the top universities on the list, Inside Higher Ed reported. The report was created to address the failure to transition first-generation, low-income students from high school to college and careers.

Mental health services

UTA’s School of Social Work and Arlington ISD are working together to provide treatment for students with mental health challenges, Arlington Today reported. Guidance counselors and social workers refer students to the School of Social Work’s Center for Clinical Social Work (CCSW), where licensed clinical staff and masters-level interns are able to diagnose and counsel students, no matter the age.

UTA’s Kenneth Roemer, recently retired Distinguished Teaching Professor and Distinguished Scholar Professor, spoke on a podcast featured on Inside Higher Ed and Academic Minute. In the podcast he looks into the question, “Is your story fit for an autobiography?”
