Support for First-Generation Students in Texas

Texas nonprofit ScholarShot created a report card to score the state's public institutions on how well they serve first-generation, low-income students, and UTA is one of the top universities on the list, Inside Higher Ed and KERA News reported. The report was created to address the failure to transition first-generation, low-income students from high school to college and careers.

Fighting Opioid Addiction

A new UTA program is training social work graduate students to be addiction recovery specialists. UTA social work professor Katherine Sanchez shared with KERA News how the program will teach students the biology of addiction, the biology of substances and how to complete interventions.

On-demand communication in emergencies

With support from the National Science Foundation, Yan Wan, UTA associate professor of electrical engineering, and a team at the University of Texas at Arlington are developing a new generation of networked, unmanned aerial vehicles to bring long distance, broadband communications capability to first responders in the field.
