UTA’s North Texas Genome Center uses genomics technology to facilitate strides forward in health research, Dallas Innovates reported in an article about how area universities are preparing technology workers for rapid change.
National ranking for School of Social Work
UTA’s master’s degree in social work program is among the best in the nation, Mirage News reported. The list is based on rankings by Online Schools Report.
Courtroom opens
UTA’s Pre-Law Center recently opened the Adelfa B. Callejo Courtroom, Mirage News reported. The mock courtroom was made possible through funding from the Callejo-Botello Foundation, which was established to honor the memory of Adelfa B. Callejo, a prolific lawyer, civil rights activist and educational advocate in Dallas. It will be used as a practice area for mock trial and moot court participants, as well as a classroom and gathering spot for students interested in studying law.
Sisters on the court and off
Sisters Marie and Barbara Benson, two UTA women’s basketball players, were featured in a KTVT CBS 11 story. They talked about how close they are, how they want to make the playoffs and named off their 13 siblings. Coach Krista Gerlich said people can definitely tell that Marie is the older sister and Barbara is the younger sister. The story starts at the 2:16 mark.
Crowded primary field
Rebecca Deen, UTA chair and professor of political science, said the upcoming Texas primary is more important than in past years because of the crowded field, The Texas Tribune reported. The Tribune story also ran in KERAnews.org and San Antonio’s KTSA.com
